FACIAL SURGERIES:

Is referred to as a variety of surgeries that are done on different areas of the face either for medical, cosmetic or reconstructive reasons. If you have any specific questions about any aspect of these procedures or operative details, you are welcome to schedule a  private consultation  or simply contact us for an answer.

FACELIFT:

This procedure improves sagging facial skin and loose neck skin by removing excess fat, tightening the muscles and redraping the skin. Most often done on men and women over 50, but it is not uncommon for people in their early 40's to have a less extensive procedure. This outpatient procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and may take one to several hours. Recovery time is about 10 - 14 days but bruising may last several weeks. The patient must avoid exposure to the sun for several months. The benefits of this surgery usually last 5 - 10 years. Potential side effects include swelling, bruising, tight feeling, and dry skin.

FACIAL IMPLANTS:

To change the basic shape and balance of the face, the use of facial implants may be necessary. To build up a receding chin, add prominence to cheekbones or reshaping the jawbone, are examples of the need for facial implants. These outpatient procedures are performed under local or general <Picture: 2facelifa.GIF (440059 bytes)>anesthesia, and depending on the needs of the patient, can take 1/2 - 2 hours. Recovery period and side effects are similar to those of the face lift, however the facial implants are permanent.

EYELID SURGERY:

Eyelid surgery known as "blepharoplasty," corrects drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eye by removing excess fat, skin and muscle. This outpatient procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia, and takes 1  hour.  The benefits of this procedure may last several years and sometimes is permanent. Potential side effects include swelling, and bruising.

FOREHEAD SURGERY:

Also known as "Browlift," minimizes the forehead creases, drooping eyebrows hooding over the eyes, furrowed forehead and frown lines by removing excess tissue, altering the muscles and tightening the forehead skin. The procedure may be done by traditional techniques using an incision across the top of the head just behind the hairline or with the use of "Endoscope" which requires 3 - 5 short incisions. This outpatient procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and takes 1 - 3 hours. Recovery period is 7 - 10 days and more strenuous activity is possible within several weeks. The benefits last 5 - 10 years. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, headache and itching at the incision line. Injury to the facial nerve, asymmetry, infection and excessive scarring are among rare side effects. Dr. DeBartolo specializes in fine facial surgeries and a face to face consultation may satisfy your further curiosity in these two cosmetic procedures.

EAR SURGERY:

Commonly known as "Otoplasty" sets prominent ears back closer to the head or reduces the size of larger ears. Most often done on children between the ages of 4 and 14 and occasionally covered by insurance. The outpatient procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and takes about 2 - 3 hours. The child returns to school in 5 - 7 days but must avoid strenuous activity and contact sports for 2 months. This is a permanent procedure. Common side effects include throbbing, swelling, redness and numbness.

NOSE SURGERY:

Also known as "Rhinoplasty" reshapes the nose by reducing or increasing the size, removing hump, changing the tip or bridge, narrowing the span of nostrils and changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip. In the event that it is used to relieve a breathing problem, it may be covered by insurance. This is an outpatient procedure performed under local or general anesthesia and takes 1 -3 hours. Recovery is 1 - 2 weeks and more strenuous activity is possible after 3 - 4 weeks. The final results may require several months to appear. This procedure is permanent. Common side effects are swelling, bruising, nasal congestion, possible nasal bleeding and headache.

CHEEK SURGERY:

Generally employed to augment the cheek bone or reduce a chubby cheek in size. The enlargement of the cheeks is performed with the use of an implant to enhance the facial bones. This procedure is done in an outpatient setting under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure. Common side effects include swelling, bruising and temporary asymmetry of the cheeks. In some cases temporary lack of sensation may occur in the area of surgery. Discuss the operative details and issues pertinent to your particular needs in your complimentary private consultation.

CHIN SURGERY:

This procedure is generally referred to those that corrects a small, large, projected, recessed or asymmetric chins. This operation is for young adults or older and is done under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical facility. This surgery may take 1 - 3 hours to perform and in some less intensive cases may be done under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. Use of implants in most cases is necessary to enlarge the chin. After surgery, compressive dressings may be applied for few days. Swelling and bruising disappears gradually. In some cases diminished sensation in the area of surgery may be present and improves over time.

LIP SURGERY:

This surgery is either intended to reduce the size of the upper/lower lips or to augment them. Lip reduction is less common and the incision line is placed inside the mouth. Enlargement of the lips is achieved by using a variety of temporary or permanent fillers. At Anti-Aging Medicine and Rejuvenation Clinic, we employ collagen to augment the lip border or a permanent implant suitable to your particular needs for long lasting results. The majority of these procedures are performed right here in our office under local anesthesia. Mild burning as well as asymmetry are common. Recovery is fairly quick with the return to normal activity within days.
